John Frusciante unofficial website on Tumblr: 10 years of Red Hot Chili Peppers' By The Way - a questionnaire to reblog and fill in!

jfrusciantesite:

It’s been ten years since the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ By The Way was released. Here’s a little questionnaire for you to reblog and fill in! Oh, the fun!

If you’re using any other blogging platform, you can get the questions formatted as HTML or, for message boards and last.fm as BB code or non-formated for Facebook and other places. Were you a fan of John Frusciante and/or Red Hot Chili Peppers in 2002? Were you one of those waiting for the album, tour, singles..?

Do you think By The Way’s got more of John’s special touch than their other albums with him?

What is your favourite song on the album?

What is your least favourite song on the album?

What is your favourite B-side (you can choose among Rivers Of Avalon, Out of Range, Time, Teenager In Love, Christchurch Fireworks Music*, Nothing To Lose*, Someone, Body of Water, Slowly Deeply*)?
[*Nothing To Lose was played live only, Christchurch Fireworks Music is a live improv and Slowly Deeply is actually from Californication sessions, but never mind.]

What do you think is the most ground-breaking thing related to this album?

What is your favourite music video off By The Way?

What is your favourite promotional picture from this era?

What is your favourite live picture from this era?

What is your favourite live photo from this era?

What is your favourite live/TV performance video from this era?

What is your favourite audio or video bootleg from this era?

What is your favourite quote from John or anybody else on recording of this album?

What is your favourite interview (in printed media or on radio/TV) from this era?

What is your favourite overall By The Way Moment?

Do you have a special order to play By The Way songs in, other than the track order?

Do you like the album art? Do you know whom the cover image is of and what was her role at the time, as well as who painted it?

What editions of this album do you own (CD, vinyl, Japanese vinyl replica)?

Do you own any other special items related to this album?

Have you seen the band on the By The Way Tour? How was it? Do you have any pics or video that you could share with us?

Do you think this album will still be important 20, 25, 50 years from its release?

Anything else you would like to add?

Favourite bands, favourite songs: Red Hot Chili Peppers

Only four, because it’s impossible for me to form a better list on this one.

4. Don’t Forget Me

For some reason (I don’t really get), people are less than impressed by thins one, but I find it to be seducing and hypnotic. Some called it “goodbye song to heroin” [sic] but as usual, it’s completely open to interpretation. Interesting lyrics.

3. Under the Bridge

Arguably, their best song, and not just because it’s the most famous. What makes RHCP unique is the fact they are always four individuals with strikingly different approaches and interests in music, and it shows in their songs, with amazing, wild results. Here, however, they are working perfectly side by side, creating one of the most beautiful ballads of the 90s.

2. Otherside

It was difficult for me to decide whether this goes on the top spot, but my love for Flea (and his crazy stuff) prevailed, so Otherside gets second spot. But there’s just so many things I like about this song, and I can play it over and over (and over) again, so it’s safe to say it’s one of my favourites.

1. Suck My Kiss

This song starts with a bang, and then just continues, wild. It’s energy just makes me feel better. Oh, and did mention I love Flea?

Red Hot Chili Peppers  - Otherside

I usually prefer their bass driven songs, but this one is amazing. There’s just something about it. And the video is great, too.
